What makes Douglass comprehensible is the fear the assassinations generated in future presidents down to the current day. Early researchers focused on the evidence and the contradictions in the case, but many like Penn Jones, Jr., Jim Garrison, Mae Brussell and more put the assassination into its political and cultural context and watched its authors and agents move forward into other state level crimes like Watergate, the assassinations of Malcolm X and Fr.
